This blog post is the official announcement of an open day at Balintore Castle. On Saturday the 20th April 2019 (i.e. the Easter weekend) between 10:00 and 17:00, members of the public are invited to view the newly restored kitchen wing. This is the culmination of 12 years of restoration.
The "Balintore Castle" sign, mentioned in my previous blog entry, was commissioned for the open day although it is something I had wanted to do for some time. Full details are in the appended flyer which you can download here. Please send this around. I look forward to seeing you on the day, which is now just three weeks away.
How did the day go?
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking! Even though I say so myself, the day went extremely well. There were perhaps 500 visitors throughout the day right through from the opening at 10 AM to the close at 5PM. Of course, it is impossible to give a definite attendee count. There were a few times the corridors clogged so we were around maximum capacity. Thankfully although there were a large number of cards parked off the single track glen road, this never clogged. The weather was warm and sunny so people were having pic-nics on the castle terrace. So hopefully good word of mouth publicity for the holiday let.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely wonderful day out for all the family. We really enjoyed the tour very informative and interesting. The rooms that were furnished were beautiful thank you for the tea and cakes too. It was so kind of you to open your home to us all.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh! How I would would have enjoyed the day, flying in from America! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ross! Now you can come and stay in the holiday let, whenever you want. :-)
DeleteI am sorry the I missed the opening. My daughter and I visit Balintore every year or so and we have been watching developments. In fact we met you about 10 years ago, I think you must have been just starting up. You took us around and I remember going up on the roof. So very well done. Its great to see a building like this getting back into shape. Look forward to visiting you on your next open day. All the best. John (Palfreyman)
ReplyDeleteHello John, I remember your visit with your daughter very well. One doesn't forget a dry rot academic coming to a temple of dry rot. :-) Fingers crossed, Balintore is a temple of a different sort nowadays, where people can come and stay for R&R. Please drop in at any time. I don't have a next open day planned at the moment. Many thanks, David
